We woke up to rain and the forecast was not looking good with it expected to last all day, so after showering we decided on a cooked breakfast to kill some time (scrambled eggs, mushrooms, sausage & crumpet).
After washing up we decided to head back to Tower Hill Nature Reserve for a walk but the campervan had other plans as the battery had gone completely dead again even though we had checked it last night!
So with another call to breakdown, assurances they would now change the battery, we waited the 90 mins for help to arrive. Unfortunately he wasn’t such a helpful guy and basically jump started us and said go for a long drive! So with another call to breakdown it was agreed we would drive to BatteryWorld back in Warrnambool to get it changed.
Finally by 1.30 we were ready to get going again with a brand new battery, with the rain still coming down we decided on finding a cafe for a hot chocolate before our booking at the Deep Blue Hot Springs.
After a blissfull 2 hours in the 17 hot geothermal outdoor pools and 1 cold plunge pool, which was quite weird as is it was still raining lightly and which we were actually grateful for as some of the pools were 40 degrees, we left feeling very chilled and relaxed.
We decided to still stop at Tower Hill and do a short walk. First we did the peak climb, a short very steep climb, then we decided to do the walk To the Last Volcano, supposedly an hours walk but with time running out to get back whilst the pub was still serving, Dave set a cracking pace and we completed it in just over 30 mins, that also had some very steep sections in, the photos just don’t do it justice.
A quick 20 min drive back to Port Fairy, we parked back at camp and set off to walk to the Stump pub for dinner.
After one drink we settled on sharing a 900 gram rump steak with salad, chips and peppercorn sauce for just £30. It was yummy! A couple of drinks later and whilst chatting to a group of 10 friends who were here for golf they convinced us we did need to buy the scallop pies we keep seeing from the bakery in the morning. We then walked back to the campsite and went straight to bed.
