It wasn’t a great sleep, the first alarm went off at 3.00am as Dave wanted to watch the Arsenal match live (not a good result!). The second alarm at 6.30. There was nothing wrong with the bed or room, basic but comfy, I think it was being in a room it felt so stuffy.
By 7.30 we were walking to the bus stop after having stripped the bed and checked out. It was pleasantly warm, the sun up and the bus arrived within a couple of minutes. It was about 20mins to the airport.
After checking in the luggage we headed to Mcdonalds for a breakfast McMuffin.
At 9.15 we started to board the Dash-8 propeller plane which seats 76. At 9.44 we departed, after the safety briefing the crew quickly dished out a butterscotch cake and water for our snack and 11 minutes after leaving the captain asked the crew to prepare for landing! A 25 minute flight.
By 10.35 we had the hire car and were on our way to Kingscote to get food for the next 2 days as this was the only supermarket on the island. Let’s see how expensive it will be!
With a couple of photo stops, we stocked up on food for 2 days at Drakes. Prices not too bad. Then set off on the hour’s drive to our little retreat by King George Beach. It was a long drive back if we had forgotten something!
With a little detour to Parndana to stock up on some beer (btw alcohol is soo expensive here, 8 cans pale ale, 2 cans whiskey lime mix £32 total!) and to grab a pie for lunch.
We continued towards King George Beach where our little retreat was for the next 2 nights. Wow what a place, ok so not so little, it did sleep 6 but with views to die for with it’s own private beach.
After unloading the car and getting the washing machine on we decided to just chill on the beach for the rest of the day. Where else would you ever get this setting and solitude? About 4 hours later we headed back up to the house to watch a beautiful sunset, topped off by seeing kangaroos on the fields and dolpins out to sea!
We had spaghetti bolagnese and garlic bread for dinner and called it a night.
Oh and we got the email we were sort of expecting; our Emirates flight from Brisbane to Dubai has been cancelled, but the connecting flight from Dubai to London is ok but leaving 1 hour earlier!!!
Looks like I have some research to do for our flights home.
