Day 33 – North Adelaide

Well we had a bit of a late start as we didn’t get in till the early hours, the music played until 1am and we had a fab time drinking and dancing. We definitely both agree blues has the edge over jazz!

So after showering we left the hotel at 10 having already clocked up over 4,000 steps and headed straight to the food market for breakfast. The market started in 1869 and has over 70 traders, most of which were selling amazing looking fresh produce. After a good walk round we settled for a slice of breakfast pizza whilst watching a famous chef called Tina do a televised cookery demonstration.

We then caught a tram from Victoria Square for 2 stops and walked to North Adelaide, first into St Peters Cathedral, then round to the hill (Lights Visior) to see what the view would have been into The Oval prior to the trees being planted to obscure the view on purpose. Then onto trendy O’Connell Street and onto the Park Lands trail. This trail circles the whole of Adelaide is 19.5km long and consists of 29 distinct parks. We walked through a couple of the parks (No 1 and 2) then caught a tram back to the city centre.

First stop a bar for a refreshment. Then around the corner we grabbed a ham and cheese toastie before getting a bus out to the east of Adelaide. Park 16 was our destination where we were going to walk part of the Formula 1 track last used in 1995, but still used by MotoGP.

After walking the track we found a little keep fit area in the park, so we both had a go at the log lift and Dave then practiced his hurdling technique, which seriously needs a lot more work!

We then caught the city connector bus back into town which luckily dropped us back outside the food market, so we had to pop in to grab ourselves a treat. Dave had some black forest cake but I settled for a cone of chicken ribs!

Back at the hotel we actually dozed off for a while before packing the suitcases and rucksacks and changing to go out for our final night in Adelaide.

With no set plan on a dinner venue we headed towards the river and passed a cool venue called The Little Hunter, luckily they had space for us so we ordered ribs for Dave and squid for myself.

We then walked to SkyCity, the casino. We could hear live music so headed to the District where there was a live band Xploder playing rock. We grabbed a drink and listened until their first set finished then hit the casino (just outside). After an unsuccessful 10 mins we went back to District and listened to another set. At 11 we thought we’d better call it a night as we had to leave the hotel at 6.15 in the morning.
