The alarms were set a little earlier again as Elaine was off to work at 8.30 and we had the bags to pack into the motorhome before leaving for our next camping trip.
This time to Wilson’s Promontory National Park for 2 nights at Tidal River Campsite followed by one night on Phillip Island. The weather was very overcast with a bit of drizzle in the air but a pleasant 18 degrees.
We left around 9.30, heading first towards Preston to collect Izzy for the trip. With Izzy ready and waiting it was a very quick stop before we were back en route. Dave filled the campervan up with diesel and we headed for the M3 and M1 .
Just before we left the M1 we stopped at Berwick to stock up with food for the next few days from Woolworths and we all grabbed a cake for lunch from Bakers Delight.
We had a further 180 kms to travel, mainly on smaller roads now, to the campsite. We entered the national park just before 3pm and it was then a further 30km to the campsite.
We decided to make an impromptu stop and do the Prom Wildlife walk, where we saw some kangaroos up close and an Emu from a distance, the sun still hadn’t come out but it was now around 22 degrees.
At about 4 we found our site in the glorified car park! Not the prettiest of settings but at least we had live music from the people in the camper behind us on their guitars, (we subsequently found out one of them was called Peter, he was born in Wales but been here for 60 years and they were musicians!)
After our first beer we went to explore the site and walked down to Norman Beach, it looked pretty cool but was probably amazing in the sun, but unfortunately it was now drizzling again.
Around 6, Dave started on the bbq and we had a feast of burgers, veggie sausages and lamb koftas. With the rain holding off we ate outside, did the washing up and had a few games of Dobble before turning in.
