Day 11 – Finally a beach day kind of day!

After quite a nice sleep we were all up about 8.30. Showers were empty with hot water and we sat outside for breakfast. The sun was definitely trying to make an appearance but there was still a lot of cloud.

Myself and Izzy checked out the visitor centre as everything was shut yesterday when we arrived and got the directions for the planned walk to Squeaky Beach. It was only a 45min walk so around 10.30 we set off.

We first found the footbridge over the River Tidal and then walked for quite a considerable amount of time, a lot of it uphill. Eventually we got to the crest and could see the beach from a distance. After a while we made it down onto the lovely white sand, it wasn’t squeaking at this stage but definitely felt a bit more grainy underfoot. We then walked the length of the beach to clamber on the huge rocks at the end of it. It was here we started to hear the squeaks when you walked (dragging your feet slightly).

Taking the same path back we took a little detour to the viewpoint at Pillar Point, by now the sun was fully out and we were all very hot.

After 2 hours we were back at camp having walked just over 5 miles in total.

Lunch was next, with Izzy and Dave opting for cheese toasties, whilst I had an egg and tomato sarnie and we finished off the gravy flavoured crisps (or chips as they are known here).

Mid afternoon we went down to Norman Beach for a rest! The sun was fully out but the sea was so cold we didn’t actually go in very deep but the outlook was just stunning. We saw some boats come in from their excursion to Skull Rock and when they came near to the shore they lowered their wheels and just drove up onto the beach.

Now completely covered in sand we showered before prepping for dinner.

Dave came up trumps again with hot dogs, potatoes and sweetcorn all washed down with a beer or two.

With the sun still shining just gone 7 we decided to have a final walk on Norman Beach. On the way there we actually saw our first wombat, they are so much larger than one would think. We managed to catch the sun going down into the sea before doing the washing up and then having a game or two of Uno.
