Day 15 – Change of Plans.

With another full Scottish breakfast this time with both haggis and black pudding polished off, we left just after 9.

Although the sun was up the clouds were soo low and made for some interesting driving!

With a slight change of plan, we decided to get the ferry across to the mainland as it was a more direct route to Fort William. So after driving for 1.5 hours we turned up at the ferry terminal at Armadale to find 1) that the 11.15 ferry didn’t exist and 2) they were fully booked for the rest of the day, would have been helpful if they could have said sold out on their website! So after a coffee and hot chocolate stop we had little option but to go for the original long way round via the bridge, only 95 miles and about 2.5 hours to go.

Once on the mainland, we had a picture stop at Eilean Donan Castle, we then continued for a while and then came across some Highland Cows so had to stop for more piccies.

As we had missed Loch Ness on our first day and realising how close we now were to it, we headed there for our main stop if the day.

We first tried to get in Urquhart Castle only to be told unless we had pre-booked tickets it was full so we continued to Drumnadrochit, where we parked up and bought tickets online for the castle for 30mins time! After grabbing a quick drink we headed back and joined the masses going around this quite spectacular ruin on the edge of Loch Ness.

After a few hours we began driving to Fort William with stops at The Bridge of Oich, Invergarry Castle (another ruin that I found by chance) and Loch Oich.

We checked into our accommodation at 5. 30 with the most magnificent view of Ben Nevis.

Only wanting a lighter meal tonight, the owner recommended the golf club just a 10min walk down the road, so just after 6.30 we made our way there for dinner.
