With the alarm set for just after 8, we only had to put on our running stuff and load the car for our closest ever stay to a park run, less than 10 mins away for the Fort William Parkrun at the Ben Nevis Basecamp! Temperature was 11 degrees, perfect for running.
Oh what a run, basically 1.5 miles down and 1.5 miles up, even Dave had to stop for a breather on the way up. Brutal but very picturesque through a forest but no pb’s here! Dave finished 18th and myself 64th out of 97 which we were both quite pleased with.
For a fiver we both had a shower for a much needed freshen up and grabbed a croissant for breakfast and then we were on our way to our first stop, The Glenfinnan Viaduct (made famous by the Harry Potter films).
After a 2 mile walk around the Viaduct and down to the Loch we headed for our last stop at Corpach Beach. An old shipwreck on the beach with Ben Nevis in the background, having taken a few pics we walked back to the car and was then lucky enough to see the steam train pass right by us.
At dead on 2 o’clock we left Fort William, having made a note of the mileage and filled the car up with fuel for the start of the journey home.
With nothing actually booked for tonight we were hoping to get down level with Kendal to then find something for the night.
The scenery driving through Glencoe was amazing, so we did have to make another picture stop.
At just gone 4 o’clock we had driven down the length of the beautiful Loch Lomond and the sun had all but disappeared and the temperature had dropped. For what seemed like the first time in ages we put the roof up on the car.
After a quick wee stop, at 6 o’clock we entered into England and at 7 o’clock arrived in Kendal. It was very hard finding anywhere to stay (at a reasonable price) so we plumped for a Travelodge just outside Kendal.
Our packing system had now gone completely to pot so we just grabbed some relatively cleanish clothes and checked in.
Luckily there was a pub just a short drive away for dinner.
