With a lay in till 8.30, we had a lazy morning planned. The campsite said we could check out at midday as they were quiet so after showering and breakfast we headed down to Long Beach for a chill and a read in the sun.
We left the site just before 12, our next destination Kingston SE. Can’t believe we only have 2 nights left in the campervan.
On route we stopped to see Pinks beach where you can drive your car onto it. We didn’t attempt this as the vehicle can actually be tracked!
Next stop the lighthouse in Kingston which was actually moved to this site from the end of a jetty 50 years ago.
Feeling a little peckish we stopped at a cafĂ© named Bliss by the Sea for a wrap and muffin. After buying some milk, bread, crisps and hot cross buns at the local supermarket we took a picture of the big Lobster and began making our way to Meningie – Lake Albert Caravan Park.
Another very deliberate site booked for it’s close proximity to the Parkrun in the morning. We’re very excited by this location as average numbers hardly ever go over 20, so we hope for some good finishing positions.
The journey was meant to take 2 hours and although travelling through The Coorong National Park the scenery was a little samey so after a while we spotted a “scenic loop road” and made the detour. Oh what a mistake, it was basically a rough dirt track, the scenery not much better and we couldn’t go much over 20 miles an hour so it must have added 40 minutes to the journey! Just before rejoining the main road again we did actually come across an amazing salt lake though.
Eventually we got to Meningie and drove along the lake front to get our bearings in this small town. Then to the campsite and we had come up trumps, we had a beautiful lake view pitch so we set the chairs out immediately and had a beer while watching the pelicans on Lake Albert.
We finished up the last of the meat on a BBQ whilst the sun went down. Very picturesque.
