Saturday – can only mean Meningie Parkrun. So alarm at 7, snoozed 10 mins, cleaned teeth, changed into running gear and as I was trying to conserve energy we didn’t do the 20 min walk so drove there in 3.
Met the lovely course director and promptly at 8.00 just 15 of us began the 5km course along the shore of Lake Albert. Even though it was completely flat, the sun was out and it was hot! But we did it – both finished in top 10 (although only 13 finished), Dave 3rd, myself 9th and we both got 1st in our age groups.
Back at camp, we showered, had some toast and checked the plan for the day as we had changed our mind for today’s route as we’re now heading towards Victor Harbour.
We filled the van again (now at $2.87), took some pictures of Lake Albert from the town centre and continued our journey.
First stop a little walk around the Pangarinda Botanic Gardens, then onto the free Wellington Ferry for all of 3 minutes to cross the Murray River, continuing on across the top of Lake Alexandrina.
Next stop, lunch in the most beautiful park in the middle of Strathalby, established in 1839 by settlers from………. you guessed it, Scotland. A very charming town indeed.
A further 45 minutes later we arrived in Victor Harbour. It seemed fairly busy so we headed to the shoreline and parked up. We walked along the front where we decided to walk over to Granite Island. There is a causeway of 632 metres which you can walk or get the horse drawn tram which has been running on and off since 1894.
After walking around much of the island we stopped for a hot drink and a vanilla slice before leaving the island by the causeway.
We then headed just up the road to Port Elliot where our campsite was. We had another pretty good spot over on the beach side where you could hear the waves.
We went for a walk along the beach straight away before having a read (and a beer) in the sun before cooking dinner. As it’s out last evening in the campervan, we had bacon, egg, beans and toast.
I then had a bit of admin to do, checking flights and accommodation for the next few days as well as planning transport links once we return the campervan tomorrow, before having a read before bed.
