With the alarm set for 7.10, we dressed and had a quick breakfast (TC – croissant, DC – porridge) before leaving at 8.20 for a brisk walk to the park near Holyrood Palace. Time for a wee and the first timers talk and we were off at 9.30. Scotland Parkruns start half hour later than English ones for some reason.
Wow, that was a bit tough, 1 mile uphill, climbing 288 feet in total and then a mile or so down. 500 odd people running, with Dave’s finishing 10th male in his age group and me finishing 8th in my age group.
We found a slightly shorter walk back and after showering and changing we met up with mum and dad and headed out.
We got on the green route bus today from St Andrews Square and enjoyed live commentary for about 30 minutes before getting off and having a stroll around the Grassmarket area. Back on the next bus for 2 stops before alighting to walk down to Dean’s Village.
Not realising it was such a steep descent into Dean’s Village, mum and dad found a cafe, whilst me and Dave walked down there to take a few piccies. It was very picturesque. Back on higher ground we joined them in the cafe for another breakfast.
With a change of plans we walked over Dean’s Bridge and caught the Blue, Regal Tour bus and headed out to The Royal Yacht Britannia. Grabbing an audio tour each we spent a couple of hours walking around it, with a very long pit stop in The Tea Room (quite slow service!).
Got back on the bus towards the hotel, walking the last bit. After a change of clothes we caught a cab to
a Bombay Cafe, Chaakoo, for a kind of Indian tapas meal, which was very scrummy indeed.
On the way back to the hotel we stopped in the Ghillie Dhu for a flight of whiskies, beer and a water!

Northern Irish park runs start at 0930 too!!
