After another lovely breakfast in the hotel, we walked up to St Andrews Square and jumped on the green bus to take us near to the castle. The plan to check out a few shops to see if we can hunt down the tartan of that world famous ‘Keith Clan’.
Well that wasn’t too hard, we found it in the first shop but then decided to check out another couple of shops to make sure it was the right one.
A short while later we had one happy dad, with the purchase of a cashmere scarf in Keith Clan Tartan.
After such thirsty work, we stopped in the Castle Rock Cafe for a hot chocolate and a small cake. Walking a further 2 minutes we then decided to visit The Devil’s Advocate Pub for some alcoholic beverages.
Following Advocates Close northwards we found ourselves just south of the railway line and 5 mins later we were back at The Scott Monument.
Mum and dad had a rest on the benches here in the sun before heading back to the hotel, whilst myself and Dave took a stroll through Princes Street Gardens in search of some more statues before deciding this was too much work in the heat and took shelter in another bar for a swift drink.
After showering and changing we met up at 4 to head for dinner at The Dome. Feeling fully satisfied after a very nice roast and now a tad full, we set off on foot to Princes Street.
Now discovering that dad has walked the sole of his shoe almost off, we popped in a couple of shops for some replacements but failed. So we had a drink in a spoons pub as we felt it was way too early to start on the Whiskies.
Now being 8 o’clock we headed back to The Balmoral to visit the Prince bar but 3 of us had rums with only dad having his Highland Park Whisky.
We were then shown to the Scotch Bar and presented with a whole book of whiskies to choose from. Dad took some advice and ended up with a Fragrant Drop from Orkney which we later discovered was 64.1 %! The good news though as it was a short measure left at the end of the bottle it was completely free!
Dad felt it was only right to actually purchase a further whisky and came up trumps with a 15year Benromach, which we all agreed was whisky of the night if not the weekend.
Grabbing a cab back to the hotel we had one more for the road in the hotel bar before turning in for the night.

Love your dad with the bar tenders 👍👍
