Day 43 – Surcharge Monday

Our last full day! Up and out at 9 to walk the few steps to the end of the street for breakfast at an adorable cafe on the river edge by the Kangaroo Point Bridge. Didn’t realise we were meant to book but we got a table anyway.

Dave ordered scrambled eggs with bacon, I chose scrambled eggs with salmon. It was a beautiful morning and we just watched the world go by (well the runners, cyclists and walkers) which was just as well as they lost our food order but we did get another hot drink free. Good job as well as with a 20% surcharge as it’s a public holiday and a surcharge for paying by card whilst they don’t accept cash it turned out to be one of our most expensive meals here!

Back at the hotel we finally got around to having a chill and swim at the swimming pool, where I finished my 7th book this holiday.

After a shower, Dave said we needed to go for a walk as we were way behind on our steps. I didn’t realise this was a thing but it seems he/we have done in excess of 10,000 steps a day for 28 days and he wants to keep it up.

First we went through the Botanic Gardens then along the riverfront, caught a Kittycat (smaller version of Citycat boat) across the river. We continued walking, caught another Kittycat back (we were the only occupants) to the northside. Ended up at Felons Bar for a refreshment then walked back to the hotel. Just over 5 miles, lots of steps!

Even though we were in denial about finally having to go home tomorrow we packed the rucksacks and suitcases and changed for dinner.

With another free drink in our bar, we checked in for our flights and confirmed the journey to the airport.

At the end of the road there was an oldy worldy steakhouse called Walters and we got a table for 2. We both had New York Strip steaks, cooked perfectly with some skinny fries and heirloom carrots, followed by hot pecan pie and schlag (whipped cream). With another double surcharge, this was our most expensive meal! But it was a lovely final dinner to our amazing trip down under.

We walked back to our hotel and had one more free drink before bed.
