Day 44/45 – Bye Bye Brisbane back to Blighty

The alarms were set for 8, we showered and dressed and went downstairs for another buffet breakfast in the hotel.

By 10.00 we had checked out and had left the cases in reception. Our plan this morning to go and visit the two art galleries, GOMA and Queensland Art Gallery.

We walked down to the river and caught a Citycat across to Southbank and then walked to the galleries. It was very hot today so we were glad of the air conditioning inside!

We spent an hour or so going around the two galleries before walking through to Southbank and stopping in The Beer Garden for our final drink here.

Around 12.30 we headed back to the hotel, it was probably one of the hottest days we have had here. We collected the cases and then had a 13min walk to the bus stop.

Just as in the UK, the train companies had put in major engineering works to coincide with the school holidays here. Hence a bus and train journey instead of just train.

Not going to lie, the walk was a tad unpleasant! But the bus turned up promptly and we were on it for half hour to Eagle Street Train Station.  Unfortunately we did then have a wait a while for the train to the airport to get our first of three flights home.

As it was an internal flight just to Sydney, we only needed to be there 45mins before take-off so we were bang on time.

Digital boarding passes were not available for this flight and with no access to a printer we managed to find a human to help. Luckily we did as she then told us about the free transfer at Sydney from domestic to international that isn’t advertised anywhere. Had we actually left the domestic airport we would then have needed to pay for a taxi to the international one!

Our flight left at 4pm and arrived at 5.30pm, next flight to Dubai left late at 9.30pm and arrived at 5.30am and our final flight ended up leaving an hour late at 9.30 am.

So all 3 flights were without major hitches, although having landed at Heathrow another plane was at our gate for unloading so we had to just sit on the plane for what felt like ages (about 30 mins) until they moved! All things considered though, with all the current troubles in the Middle East we were thankful to get home with just a few delays.

After collecting our luggage we made our way to the Elizabeth line, where we only waited 1 min for the direct train to Shenfield to pull in.

An hour and a half later at 6pm, Suzanne was waiting for us to drive us home.

The end of another amazing adventure……..until next time……..
