Day 5 – Departure Day

With a final light breakfast eaten we checked out of the hotel, leaving our luggage for collection later and headed to St Andrews Square for a final time.

First stop RBS Bank, bit unusual but this was once the most prestigious house on the square so we thought we would take a look. And a very spectacular domed ceiling banking hall it was!

Next stop Clarks and Skechers where dad finally swapped to new shoes and we deposited the old ones in a bin!

Walking down to the bridge by the railway station we grabbed a cab for the short ascent up to the old town to save our legs from the many steps up!

First stop, you guessed it, hot chocolate and coffees before going into the huge St Giles Cathedral.

We then walked up to The Witchery for our lunch booking and had a very tasty 2 course lunch and I finally got some haggis and mum & dad finally got their Christmas present!

Having some time to kill, we walked down a very steep slope followed by lots of steps to The National Gallery of Edinburgh to find some famous paintings. Namely, Monarch of The Glen, Olive trees and A Seascape, Shipping by moonlight.

We then found a bench for mum and dad overlooking the park whilst myself and Dave walked back to the hotel to grab the cases.

With a final drink back at the gallery we then boarded the tram back to the airport.

Our flight was on time and we arrived safely home at 10.00pm.
