We woke at 7.30 to find a light dusting of snow on our balcony and it was still snowing.. Breakfast at 8.30 (2 boiled eggs!) then back to our room to pack the last bits up.
We had paid up last night so it was a quick departure just after 10.00 for the short walk to the bus stop.
It was freezing and a little windy and we just happened to be outside the cowshed – so it didn’t smell that pleasant. Pretty soon there were about 20 of us waiting for the bus which when it turned up 30 mins late was full, but we were told there were another 3 en route and expected within minutes. We didn’t warm up but we did get used to the smell and lo and behold 3 buses turned up all together!
Just over an hour later we were at the train station in St. Michel Valloire and we grabbed our cases and looked for a cafe for lunch. I think we got the last table for 2 as everybody had had the same idea. We left our suitcases in the corner with all the others and I had a salad with lots of cheese and Dave just had chips (and a beer of course).
We then headed back to the train station where we didn’t have long to wait until we boarded and we were on our way to Chambrey.
Our hotel was only a few minutes walk from the station and we dumped our bags and set out to explore Chambrey (this time having done a little bit of research).
First on the list was the ‘world famous’ elephant statue, then onto the ancient town, where we popped into the cathedral then more walking until we found the impressive looking Chateau des Ducs de Savoie.
Feeling a tad chilly now we found a little tap room called Hop Hop Hop where Dave had a beer and I had a hot chocolate whilst we played Dobble!
A short walk round the corner we found a decent looking restaurant where I had a tartiflette and Dave salmon tagliatelle.
Walking back to the hotel we spotted a roof top bar and thought it would be rude to not check it out so we popped in there for one for the road so to speak!
