Day 5 – Another new activity

As we stayed in the bar to 1am last night we had a little lay-in with the alarm going off at 8.

After a quick shower we finished packing the cases and went over for breakfast. After my normal breakfast of cold meats and eggs but today with some reindeer sausages as well we got layered up and grabbed the cases taking them to reception prior to our room change.

We met our guide Tommi at 10.30 for our final planned activity of fat e-bikes. Luckily it was only the two of us signed up so it wasn’t long before we were off.

The bikes took a little getting used to, it was quite tricky if you got stuck in the rut of a snowmobile track but with the gears and the electric motor that you could put in boost mode, the hills were a breeze. It wasn’t long before we had the hang of it.

Tommi first took us to the cabin we stopped at last night for the Aurora Camp where we had some water. We then continued to a Canvas tent where Tommi lit the fire and served us ………….. yep more hot glogi.

It was nice to warm up as the temperature had considerably dropped today and was probably around -15.

We then followed the trails back to the hotel, having clocked up four miles of the most scenic trails through the pine trees with the wild reindeer searching for food around us.

For the first time our fingers and toes were absolutely frozen so we headed to the bar to have a  hot chocolate to try and warm up before taking our cases down to the Aurora Cabin next to the frozen river.

The igloo was very cute and small and there was some more champagne on the bed for us.

Before lunch service finished we headed back for some soup and whilst I had burgund stew, Dave opted for chicken curry.

With dusk well and truly here at 2.30 we set off for our final walk in the snow, before heading back to our new room.

Wow, we’re we in for a shock, the room was freezing and for once I looked forward to getting in the sauna to warm up!  We had been thoroughly spoilt in the log cabin, it had been very cosy and toasty with underfloor everywhere, even under the shower!

It took about 20mins to warm up in the sauna and we hoped the residual heat would help warm it up. But still I jumped in bed to keep warm and have a read/snooze before dinner.

Probably our last reindeer meal for a while, so we both chose sauteed reindeer!

With a final drink in the bar after dinner with a game of cards, we thought we would go back for an earlier night to watch the sky from the bed.

However, there we were in the middle of playing trumps and the Aurora call came. Luckily there weren’t too many people in the reception/restaurant and mid game we dropped everything, grabbed our coats and headed outside. You need to be so quick as it faded within a couple of minutes but not until I had managed to get another good shot.
