What better way to start the day than a 5km run, well according to Dave, but I did go with him. We ran along the bay front and even on a small section of sand which was quite hard work, the temperature was already 18 degrees.

With a weeks worth of washing already, we put a wash on and decided to treat ourselves to the hotel buffet breakfast whilst waiting for it to finish. Once hung out we were off to the beach for a chilled morning reading and a quick dip in the sea – it was freezing!

Next up at 2pm, we lined up on the jetty to get aboard the ‘Dolphin Seeker’ for our afternoon cruise out to ‘The Hole in the Rock’. Stunning scenery in the sunshine, unfortunately no dolphins but the boat actually sailed through the hole. We had a stop at Urupukapuka Island, where we did a short walk as it was very steep and very hot, had a beer of course and I had another swim. We left the island getting on for 6pm and headed straight to the Craft Beer Kitchen in Paihia for you guessed it another beer and some dinner. Amazing meal, mine was served on a hot stone to cook to your liking and included steak, lamb, chicken, prawns and scallops – yummy.

Then a slow walk back to the hotel to have a drink on the balcony, prior to packing up as we want an early start in the morning back to Auckland!
